About The Gift Mall
Our website contains a large selection of valuable and original blue, polychrome Delft earthenware (Delftware) manufactured by Potterie "Oud Delft" (Old Delft) of international repute.
The origin of Delft earthenware dates back to the sixteenth century. Dutch potters manufactured it with great success and soon its beauty and charm attracted attention abroad.
It is still treasured in museums and important private collections all over the world.
Delft earthenware (Delftware) has now been manufactured for over four centuries. It's forms and the beauty of it's decorations have always been of such high standard that there would be little sense in making radical changes.
The Gift Mall has always adhered to the old traditions. Today, however, a clay mixture is used that is more hard wearing than the brittle clay used in the sixteenth century.
Distinctions are made between Blue, Polychrome and White Delft (soon available!). Items having decorations of exquisite, transparant blue applied to white glazing are called "Blue Delft". In the case of multicoloured decorations the term "Polychrome Delft" is used. Unjustly, "White Delft" was long valued less highly, but, fortunately, people have become aware of the virgin beauty of the glazing, accentuating the purity of the form.
Hence, items bearing the hall mark shown here below may be rightly called Delft Earthenware (Delft Ware)
We hope you enjoy shopping at The Gift Mall!
